Leam Richardson highlighted Pompey’s work-rate as a decisive factor in the victory at Plymouth.

Penalties from Matt Tubbs and Gary Roberts made it three wins from three for the Blues at Home Park today.

A late strike from Gregg Wylde gave the Pilgrims hope, but Paul Cook’s side saw out the win.

Pompey again started well before Plymouth came into the game late in the first half.

The second half was more disjointed, with a spiky edge and some needle coming to the surface.

Richardson felt the endeavour of Pompey was a big factor in the win.

He said: ‘The work-rate from the boys was there from the outset. That was pleasing.

‘Even when we came under the pressure I thought we stood up well to it.

‘If your work ethic stays strong you will be the best you can be and get good results.

‘It was pleasing the areas we got into in the first half.

‘We could have been more productive but we can see the improvements.’
