ON the last Saturday before Christmas, 12 Santas made an appearance during Pompey’s away trip to Cheltenham.

The invasion happened at half-time during the Blues’ 1-1 draw at the Whaddon Road stadium, and left everyone amused and confused.

One Santa had what can only be described as a deliberate wardrobe malfunction, as his, erm, trousers ‘fell’ down during his run on to the pitch.

But while they were ejected from the ground, it seems they got off with a slap on the wrists after only having their names taken by Gloucestershire Police.

A spokesman for the force said: ‘Gloucestershire Police can confirm that they were ejected from the stadium by the match stewards according to normal practice for a pitch invasion.

‘Police fully supported the stewards in their handling of the event, and responded to this incident by taking the names of those fans for this offence, for which they will be reported.

‘Although pitch invasion is an offence for which people can be charged, police consider this was an appropriate and proportionate response to a low level incident just prior to Christmas.’
