Pompey’s outside hopes of a play-off position crashed and burned in spectacular style as they were humbled 3-0 at home by Coventry City.

Marlon King opened the scoring before half-time from the penalty spot after Ricardo Rocha tripped Gary McSheffrey.

McSheffrey made it two after the break as he planted a header into Jamie Ashdown’s bottom corner and King struck the third, again from the spot, with Hayden Mullins red-carded for a supposedly deliberate handball.

But it was a lifeless performance from Pompey and finally ends their hopes of a top-six berth.
