Gaffer for a day Ian Chiverton previews Pompey’s trip to Stevenage.

This might be a bit of a nervy game for us, especially having conceded in the 90th minute on Tuesday night.

For me, automatic promotion has gone now. We have not shown the consistency of the top three and are not in their class.

We need to refocus on a play-off place, I don’t think fans realise how close it is in there at the moment.

Sadly, this is just not our year to go up automatically, the top three are not slipping up and Northampton are absolutely relentless.

For the trip to Stevenage, I would like to go back to 4-2-3-1 in a match we need to win, although we say that every week.

I would bring Matt Clarke and Gareth Evans back in the side in place of Christian Burgess and Kal Naismith.

Burgess seems to have had a few hot-headed displays recently and I am not sure why. He completely lost it at Yeovil.

Maybe it is a game for him to cool down a bit as we are lucky to have three quality centre-backs. No matter which one Cook picks I am never worried.

Naismith has done okay but, behind Ben Davies, my player of the year is Evans, who must be put back in.

We cannot leave him on the bench any longer. He is a quality player who gives so much going forward.

Evans has that bit of class about him and in our previous successful seasons it has shown you need a few players with that bit extra to open up teams. He is one of those.

Conor Chaplin must remain in attack. He scored a great goal against Exeter, one superb touch and suddenly the ball is in the back of the net. The keeper didn’t know anything about it.

I know Adam McGurk is injured at the moment but I don’t rate him, I can’t see what he brings to the side.
