THE chairman of the Pompey Supporters’ Trust believes Michael Appleton’s successor will come from within Fratton Park.
Ashley Brown, chairman of the Pompey Supporters’ Trust, believes administrator Trevor Birch will look to replace the departing manager with one of his own staff.
Brown said: ’Whilst it’s disappointing to see Michael go, he has had a tough year at Portsmouth and he summed it up very well himself.
‘We know he has got roots up in the north west, it was an ideal job to get up there closer to his family.
‘We’re disappointed he has chosen to move on but we have to get behind whoever comes in and keep fighting to survive, not just in the league but survive as far as the club’s concerned as well.
‘I would imagine that the administrator is not going to want to bring anybody in from outside right now. His job is not to go spending money. He is going to want to look internally.’
Caretaker manager Guy Whittingham will take the reins at the weekend for Pompey’s match with Bury.
Mr Brown said the Trust’s lawyers are talking to administrators on an almost hourly basis as they head towards what they hope will be a buy out of the club.
