Matt Tubbs toasted his Pompey arrival and insisted: I can’t wait to get started.
The 30-year-old today signed a two-and-a-half-year deal to bring a satisfactory conclusion to the Blues’ long-running pursuit.
Pompey beat off interest from AFC Wimbledon, Southend and Bristol Rovers for the 15-goal striker.
Tubbs this morning trained with his new team-mates to put himself firmly in the frame for Saturday’s trip to Newport County.
And the former Bournemouth man is relishing the chance to kick-off his Pompey career.
He said: ‘I cannot wait to get started.
‘I would not want to come to a team sat mid-table in League Two and I am here for promotion.
‘I am a southern lad and live on the south coast as well so as soon as this move came about I was keen to get it done as soon as possible.
‘I heard rumours Pompey were interested before the Boxing Day game and didn’t want to burn my bridges by celebrating when I scored so kept it as low key as I could!
‘It’s a really big football club and that appeals to me, ask any young lad and they want to play in front of as big crowds as possible.
‘When I played against Pompey on Boxing Day I could see the nucleus was there and in training today we did create chances.’
