Pompey chalked up a much-needed 3-1 over Doncaster Rovers at Fratton Park today.

Temporary managerial duo Stuart Gray and Guy Whittigham delivered a second win in three games to keep the feel-good factor in place with the Blues.

Luke Varney grabbed two goals, with Dave Kitson bundling over David Norris’ header in between.

Varney opened the scoring after just three minutes as he latched on to a long kick from Stephen Henderson and forced the ball home.

Doncaster equalised after 27 minutes as the home side fell asleep from a corner, allowing Simon Gillett to finish.

Pompey had much the better of play after the restart, and the killer goal came with 22 minutes left.

David Norris headed the ball past Neil Sullivan from Liam Lawrence’s nod across goal and Kitson was there to force the ball home.

Varney then made sure of the victory with 15 minutes left, after Erik Huseklepp burst into the box and put the ball on a plate for the striker to roll the ball home.

The win gives Pompey 15 points from 13 games and moves them up to 15th in the league table.
