Gary Waddock has denied he gave Jed Wallace a final farewell during today’s game at Fratton Park.

Pompey’s newly-crowned player of the season was substituted to a standing ovation in the closing stages of the 1-1 draw with York.

Wallace has been linked with a move away from the Blues, with Championship sides Fulham and Wolves potential suitors for his signature.

However, Waddock insisted he simply wanted to allow the player to receive the recognition of the Fratton faithful after an impressive campaign.

‘I just wanted to give him his moment with the supporters,’ said Waddock.

‘We don’t know what will happen with Jed in the summer and there is a lot of interest in him.

‘But after the season he’s had, he deserved it.’
