Guy Whittingham bemoaned the ‘unbelievable’ goals that led to Pompey’s downfall against Yeovil.

Poor defending was again to blame as the Blues made it 12 games without a win in the 2-1 defeat at Fratton Park.

Conceding poor free-kicks and not dealing with balls into box were to blame in a woeful 45-minute performance.

Boos were heard at half-time but Pompey upped their efforts after the break and made a fist of the game.

Whittingham took solace from that - but knows inept defending can’t continue if Pompey are to turn their fortunes around.

He said: ‘It was a nothing game first half.

‘The second phases weren’t good and defending set-pieces.

‘Neither team played well and they gave us a typical game of League One football.

‘We didn’t help ourselves by not defending set-pieces and giving away poor free-kicks. The goals we gave away were unbelievable.

‘It was not good enough, but everyone saw the difference second half.’
