Guy Whittingham hailed Pompey’s second-half super show as they put Doncaster to the sword.
Two goals after the break from the Blues helped them to a 3-1 win at Fratton Park today.
A double from Luke Varney and a Dave Kitson’s strike did the damage.
Kitson’s bundled effort after 68 minutes proved key with Varney finishing the game off with 15 minutes left.
Whittingham felt Pompey weren’t at their best in the first-half - but upped their game after the break to do the damage.
He said: ‘Any win is a good win, but to score three is great.
‘We scored and then kept on in the same vein.
‘But then we invited them into the game.
‘They got back into it and we were lucky to go in at 1-1. We were second best.
‘But in the second half we came into it and did well and that was pleasing.’
Whittingham pinpointed Luke Varney, Dave Kitson and Greg Halford as standout performers for Pompey.
He said: ‘Greg played well and I thought Dave Kitson had a good game.
‘Being a striker though, I think Luke Varney wouldn’t be happy if he wasn’t seen as man of the match!’
