Guy Whittingham is banking on Pompey following Colchester’s example and finally ending their losing streak.
The U’s won 2-0 against Walsall last weekend – ending a run of nine successive defeats.
Pompey themselves have lost six in a row during a 16-match winless period.
Now the two strugglers meet at Fratton Park tomorrow seeking an advantage in the relegation fight.
And Whittingham is desperate for a first victory since October 20.
He said: ‘There are so many things going on here it’s not easy to just concentrate on the football.
‘But that is what we have got to do and Colchester – until last weekend – had been on a similar run to us.
‘Hopefully we can try to put our winless run to an end.
‘It’s something we look to do every single game, not just Colchester.
‘Every team we play against is tough and every team you play wants to win the game, so that will be no different tomorrow.
‘You hope you do well enough to win and we have been doing reasonably well in games but unfortunately haven’t been winning.
‘Everybody is trying to gel together as quickly as they can and we did so well against Notts County.
‘We just couldn’t get it over the line.’
