ALEX Pike had no excuses as his Gosport Borough were well-beaten 6-3 at home to League One outfit Colchester United.

Pike’s men struggled to live with the step-up in class, particularly in the first half as they found themselves 4-1 down at the break.

And although Borough improved after the interval, the damage was already done.

Pike said: ‘Colchester deserved to win the game on the balance of play but it’s a feeling of disappointment in the changing room.

‘We didn’t play like we would do in a Conference South game.

‘We afforded them far too much respect in the first half.

‘We scored three goals against a League One side and we have got to take some credit for that and we looked a better side in the second half.’
