A pub team from Portsmouth are about to realise a footballing dream.

Vincy Heat FC will step out at the Emirates Stadium – home of Premier League Arsenal – tomorrow when they contest the green card tournament of the Carlsberg Pub Cup.

And the Portsdown Inn-based outfit can’t wait to swap the local pitches of Hampshire for the luxurious top-flight surroundings.

The Carlsberg Pub Cup is a nationwide five-a-side tournament which offers the winners of 16 regional finals a chance to represent their local pub at the north London venue.

The competition’s green card event gives the 16 teams knocked out at the climax of the regional group stages an additional opportunity to run out at the Gunners’ home.

Referees rewarded acts that captured the essence of Carlsberg’s support of the England football team with a green card.

Acts which merited such recognition included sportsmanship, team spirit, fair play, overcoming the odds and great support.

Vincy Heat FC were given their green card for the spirit in which they played the game.

Skipper Nigel Creese, said: ‘We are really excited to be heading to the famous Emirates Stadium and representing the Portsdown Inn.

‘We play football in the right spirit so were awarded a green card by Carlsberg.

‘Now we are determined to enjoy our day out.’

Graham Poll has been the first to congratulate the side, whose pub is based on Leith Avenue.

The former World Cup referee launched the green card competition.

He said: ‘This is a great initiative for players of any standard to get involved in this Carlsberg five-a-side competition.

‘The green card tournament meant all entrants – whatever their standards – had the opportunity to reach the final at the Emirates Stadium.

‘So, many congratulations to Nigel and Vincy Heat FC. I hope they enjoy the day.’

Carlsberg is the official beer of the England football team.

They are also a sponsor of Uefa Euro 2012.
