FOUR Xcel Gymnastics club members are heading to Stoke on Trent for the national sport acrobatics finals this weekend.

Callum Bungay and Alex Martin will be in action in the grade three pairs, while Tyler George and Jake Clark also join forces at Fenton Manor Sports Complex as the quartet take centre stage on the floor.

Bungay and Martin both picked up silver medals at the nationals last time at grade one but have moved up two grades this year.

Head coach Denise Wilkinson said: ‘Callum and Alex have two different routines to perform.

‘They have been working to up their skill level and their start value.

‘Tyler and Jake had as high a start value as they can have when they competed in the southern regions.

‘They will be happy if they can repeat what they did there and have made the most of the time to add extra polish to their routine.

‘Everyone from the club is behind them and we will have a group going up to support them.’

Both pairs won gold at the southern regions to qualify for the nationals.

Xcel also picked up some great results in the Southern Region Boys’ Championships at Hamble earlier this month.

Callum Archer, nine, placed third overall in the 10-and-under category.

Joe Lewis-Back, seven, and Jack Humphray, 12, also won apparatus medals, while Felix Coomber, nine, and Harry Bryant, 10, performed very well.
