coach Ben Barnes expressed concern over a lack of confidence after Fareham went down to a 2-0 Men’s Conference West loss to bottom club Guildford.

Fareham went behind inside three minutes and then went 2-0 down after 19 minutes – a position they were unable to recover from with a poor display.

Barnes said: ‘Guildford took their chances early on and worked their socks off to hang on to their advantage.

‘We did not play with any confidence and were not threatening.

‘But this result gives us a lot to think about for the next two months before the league programme resumes.’

Shaun Baker nearly pulled one back but his fierce shot rattled back off the post and they failed to trouble the Guildford goalkeeper as the visitors packed the defence to hang on.

n Hannah Oldham, Hannah Nicholls and Vicky Field were on target as Fareham Ladies claimed a convincing 3-1 win at Yateley to continue their recent good form.
