Havant were crowned national champions on Sunday after defeating Didsbury Northern at Cannock.

The ladies’ second string lifted the England Hockey Second XI Trophy with a commanding 3-0 triumph over their Manchester rivals.

A superb solo effort from Rebecca Van Berkel broke the deadlock midway through the first half.

Then, on the stroke of half-time, Nicky Wright’s shot from an acute angle was saved and Sue Robinson pounced on the rebound to make it two.

The pair made the game safe after 50 minutes when Wright quickly took a long corner and crossed for Robinson to flick home.

With goalkeeper Lauren Wake called upon to kick clear once, Danelle McKenna’s side – who were crowned Hampshire League division two champions last month – closed the game out with the minimum of fuss.
