The Devils’ title charge is in danger of freezing over.
The Solent & Gosport side have blazed away at the top of the National League south division two table this term.
But after a 5-1 defeat at the hands of title-rivals Slough Jets, their promotion charge is cooling.
Kris Abbott got the only goal of the game on Sunday.
It was nothing more than a consolation for the Devils skipper, though, as the Jets drew level with their visitors at the top of the table.
Only one side gets promoted and Slough have the edge on the head-to-head record.
But with two games in hand – and just four left of the season – the Devils’ remain masters of their own destiny.
They may, though, be forced to tackle the tail end of the campaign without influential defender Curtis Jeffery.
He suffered a back injury against Slough and was carried off as the Jets’ stopper stole the show.
The Devils must win three of their last four games to make certain of the crown.
