Solent Devils went down 3-0 to Wightlink Raiders in their derby clash at the Gosport Ice Arena.

A Jaroslav Cesky double sandwiched Daniel Rose’s strike as the third-placed outfit kept in touch with Chelmsford and Streatham at the top of National League south division one.

The Devils, meanwhile, slid to sixth spot.

A physical opening to the game saw Ralfs Circenis and Raiders’ Jordan Gregory receiving penalties for roughing.

Barely two minutes later, the Devils’ Canadian import Richard Brown was challenged forcefully by Ben Paynter.

Brown and Radiers’ Danny Ingoldsby were sent to the bin. Paynter was following them until a further show of dissent prompted the referee to send him for an early shower.

Fortunately, the game settled down a little in the second period and four minutes after the restart, the Raiders edged in front.

After a fine counter-attack, Richard Facey saw his shot blocked by the left pad of Matthew Colclough in the Raiders goal.

Circenis picked up the rebound only to be knocked aside by Craig Tribe, who fed Raiders captain Cesky to fire past Christian Cole from just inside the blue line.

Another breakaway saw Cesky tee-up Rose to make it 2-0 early in the third period.

And the puck had barely dropped when, with four players battling it out on the Devils’ blue line, Ryan Webb picked out Cesky to power an almighty one-timer straight past Cole.

The Solent side travel to leaders Chelmsford Chieftains on Sunday (5.40pm).

Their next home game is against London Raiders on Sunday, November 22 (7pm).
