A TRIO of talented Solent & Gosport Ice Hockey Club stars are making the step up to ‘A’ League action.

Harry Hinton and Ralfs Circenis (both Solent Hunters under-14s), and James Hounsome (Solent Destroyers under-12s) have all opted to leave the club to play at a higher level.

Promising defender Hinton has recently had trials with Sheffield Scimitars’ under-16s, who have since offered the youngster a position with their ‘A’ League team in the EIHA north one division.

His team-mate Circenis has opted to join another ex-Solent Hunter player, Paul Petts, at Basingstoke Bison’s under-16 team, where he will be playing in the EIHA south one division.

Completing the trio, Hounsome has been snapped up by Swindon Wildcats, having impressed at trials for the club.

He will be playing ‘A’ League hockey for the under-14s team, again competing in EIHA south one.

A spokesperson for Solent & Gosport Ice Hockey Club said: ‘We have always prided ourselves on being a development club and, as hard as it is for us to face, these talented players have reached a point at which they need to move on to improve.

‘I am sure that being given this chance to play ‘A’ League ice hockey they will improve and it will also give them a chance to break into their respective conference age-group teams and hopefully their junior national teams.’

On the players’ individual merits, the spokesperson added: ‘James has done really well this season, proving himself in the under-12s Destroyers and also with the under-14s Hunters.

‘Harry and Ralfs have also had an exceptional season together in the under-14s Hunters and the under-16s Cruisers.

‘James and Harry have already proven themselves at conference level in the British Inline Puck Hockey Association and have been tipped to represent Great Britain.

‘We wish them all the best for the future. It’s a shame for the club that we have to let them go but I’m sure we will have others waiting in the ranks to get out there and fill the spaces left by these players.’
