Junior league expands to accommodate several new teams

Fareham Fireflys Blue are making good progress as they aim to regain their place in division four.

The impressive youngsters are targeting promotion after dropping out of the division above.

They have lost just one of their seven games, winning five and drawing one in division five.

Previously, they finished mid-table in division six of the Gosport & Fareham League for two seasons.

But in autumn 2011, Lynn Ward took over managing the team from Ros Bellamy and they have worked their way up the divisions.

‘We had some new members join us from the under-16 team Fareham Fireflys Lime,’ said Ward.

‘And the team gelled right from the start, moving up to division five in spring 2012.

‘They had a really storming season, winning all their games.

‘The move to division four provided them with renewed competition.

‘And despite well-fought games, they finished in the bottom two and are now in division five.’

Wins over Bishop’s Waltham Wildcats Orange, Fareham Fireflys twice, Bishop’s Waltham Wildcats Blue and Gosport Gators B have given the team confidence.

Ward added: ‘I am really pleased with the way the girls have reacted to relegation and they have put the hard work in to try to get promotion.

‘I am confident, if they keep this up, they will go back up to division four for the autumn season.

‘The team are highly motivated and well supported by members of their family at most games.’

Fareham Fireflys Blue’s play next Thursday at 7pm against Bishop’s Waltham Wildcats Orange.
