ADJUSTING to a higher division has been plain sailing so far for Gosport Ferry.

Four wins from four matches have seen the side cruise to the top of Gosport & Fareham League division four.

Team captain Kim Pinder has been pleasantly surprised by the rapid nature of the team’s progress.

They were promoted as winners of division five last season.

And there’s been no sign of choppy waters in the division above.

Pinder said: ‘We finished top of division five last season and got the promotion to division four but we never expected to do this well so quickly.

‘We have had a fantastic couple of seasons and we are unbeaten in all competitions since July 2011 which is a great achievement.’

Gosport Gators B were swept aside 45-24 in Ferry’s last match.

And Pinder puts the stunning form of the team down to their impressive work ethic.

She added: ‘The last few seasons have been fantastic but we are working harder than ever to keep it up.

‘We have the determination to win but we are taking every game as it comes.’

As well as the win over Gators B before the Easter break, Ferry have also beaten Swanmore Sirens 26-19, Pink Harriers 49-21 and Salterns 36-31 this season to lead the table on 16 points, ahead of Amazons on 13 and Blues on 10.

Last season’s unbeaten sweep through division five, certainly ensured the team began the campaign on the crest of a wave.

And while they have continued their upward curve, they haven’t always been coasting to success.

The team has been in the Gosport & Fareham league since joining from the junior league back in 2004.

In the early years they were a yo-yo team as they were promoted and relegated from division six and division five.

Pinder said: ‘We still have five of our original members – myself, Stacey Dewan, Hollie Fletcher, Stacey Pankhurst and Sharon White.

‘We have also had Kerry Loughrey, Sam Smith, Lauren Swann and Ruth O’Grady with us for a few seasons now.

‘We have really gelled together and now have a strong squad of nine players.’

And with continued sponsorship from Gosport Ferry Ltd, the team also joined the Portsmouth league last season.

They are quickly establishing themselves as a force.

‘We joined division five of the Portsmouth league last season and won the division unbeaten,’ added Pinder.

‘We are still unbeaten over there, currently in second spot in division four, having won two and drawn one.

‘We’ve gone over there with a strong squad to ensure we reach our full potential and give all that we’ve got, and we are really enjoying it.

‘We are also very grateful for the continued support from Gosport Ferry Ltd,’ added Pinder.

Gosport Ferry’s next opponents are Hughes & King on Wednesday, April 18 at 7pm.
