Hughes & King are hoping the tide has turned.

After a few tough seasons in the Gosport & Fareham League, the side are looking forward to life in division five.

Claiming promotion – and the title – in the sixth tier last term, Hughes & King got back on track.

And now they are hoping they are on the rise again.

‘We are delighted to have moved up a division and hope our determination will continue to see good results in division five,’ said captain Lisa King.

‘We are also delighted to welcome back Kelly Wallis to the team.

‘Kelly’s experience from playing in higher divisions will be a great asset to us.’

Hughes & King returned to the Gosport & Fareham League in September 2009 – following time out due to injuries and other commitments.

And by Autumn 2011, they had risen to division four.

But in the summer of 2012, the bubble burst and consecutive relegations saw them slide into division six.

Originally known as A&J Bull, the team still has three players who have been playing together for a decade.

‘A&J Bull was formed many years ago before I joined the team but myself, Paula Singh and Suzy Gudgeon have been playing netball together for approximately 10 years,’ explained King.

‘We have seen a few players come and go but now have a strong consistent team.’

Hayley Dyke joined the team around 2008, along with her sister-in-law Rebecca Dyke.

Sharon Tribble linked up with them three years ago after a 10-year gap and Natalie Izzard joined in 2012, along with Louise Brenton.

Lorraine Sherwood has also been a great support to the team for the past two years – stepping in whenever required.

‘Everyone in the team is employed in the education sector, so we all enjoy meeting for netball, not just for the exercise but on a social level too,’ said King.

Hughes & King’s begin the division five season against MegaMix on Thursday, September 19 (7pm).
