Martinis are determined to toast promotion at the end of the season.
The Gosport & Fareham League division seven outfit have gone from strength to strength in recent weeks.
And having won all of their games so far, they are sitting pretty at the top of the table.
‘It’s only our second season together,’ said team manager Lymara Slater.
‘We have won all of our games and are currently top of division seven, which is great.
‘When we first started out, we finished eighth and last season we were sixth.
‘So to have stayed undefeated for the first half of the season is such a confidence boost and brings great positive team spirit.’
Martinis are part of a club with MegaMix, who are mid-table in division six.
They only began training together in 2011 after Slater, a former division one player, entered them in the league.
‘I had been playing in division one for many years and I was keen to get more people interested in netball and to utilise my level one coaching certificate,’ said Slater.
‘I invited my mum and her friends, my friends from work and a few others from school to start some training sessions.
‘Many of the ladies had never played netball before, so it was a new and fun experience.
‘We then nervously entered the summer season 2011-12 as two separate teams.’
And Slater is hoping the season continues the way it has started.
‘I’m hoping Martinis can finish in the top three,’ she said.
‘However, we do have a few games coming up where we will be short on players.
‘We may need to rethink our game plan for those matches.
‘The division is really close at the moment – anything is possible within the top four.
‘So Martinis are preparing for a tough battle ahead.
‘I would also like to congratulate my MegaMixers for getting promotion to division six where they are holding their own.’
