Market House Misfits are hoping this season will mark the start of their climb back up the divisions of the Gosport & Fareham League.
The team have been on a downward spiral in recent campaigns.
But the division seven outfit are re-energised for this term and keen to get back on track.
Market House Misfits joined the league in 2009 – when they were known simply as Misfits.
They have experienced many highs and lows over the years.
After securing promotion to division five in the spring of 2011, they finished were immediately relegated that autumn.
And things didn’t get any better when they finished bottom of division six the following season – which sent them tumbling into the bottom tier.
And that is where they have remained – propping up the league in autumn 2012, finishing sixth in spring 2013 and then fourth last season.
Misfits captain Carrie-Ann Titcombe said: ‘Because of our large turnover of girls – and due to some of our better players going on to play for first and second division teams – we have found ourselves back in division seven.
‘Along with Holly Gardner, I have played for the team since we were formed in 2009.
‘We are the only two remaining girls of the original line up.
‘I took over the captaincy and running of the team in summer 2012.
‘Only now have we got a settled team.’
Market House currently sit in top spot in division seven, having won all four of their games.
‘The girls and I are really over the moon with the way our season has begun and we are really excited to be in the mix for a promotion place,’ added Titcombe.
‘We are having the most fun we have had in a long time and we are even beginning to get some excellent training sessions in with the help of Laura Carter, who also plays for us.
‘We finally have a settled group of ladies and it’s showing in our game as we are currently unbeaten. We always set out to be a team that played mainly for our enjoyment of the game and for fitness.
‘This has resulted in some brilliant seasons where everybody was enjoying themselves and working hard for one another.
‘But this season we seem to have finally struck the right balance – having fun and winning matches.’
The team are lucky enough to have the sponsorship of the Market House Tavern in Forton Road, Gosport.
‘They have been incredibly generous and unwavering in their support of us all the way back to when the team was formed,’ added the Misfits skipper.
Market House Misfits’ next game is against Con-Fusion on Tuesday at 7pm.
