Swanmore are enjoying the sweet taste of success after starting the season superbly in Gosport & Fareham League division four.

Team captain Lynn Evans believes there could be a secret ingredient behind their fine run of form, with wins in all of their first five matches.

She said: ‘I think our success this season may be down to the amount of sugar we consume in the form of Haribo at a game.

‘Or perhaps it is our change of kit, from red to green, that’s done it!

‘We anticipate the next few matches to be quite tough.

‘So we are not being complacent.

‘We are just enjoying the wins, as last season the start to the season was a rather different picture, with three losses, one draw, and one win.

‘Obviously we picked up in the second half of the season, otherwise we wouldn’t still be here in division four.’

Swanmore have been in division four since March 2011 when they secured promotion, finishing top of division five and winning 12 of their 14 games.

The side had narrowly missed out on promotion in past seasons.

In spring 2010, they were denied promotion by Gosport Borough Mavericks in the final game of the season.

Those near misses have helped to forge a great team spirit and a determination in the ranks.

Evans said: ‘What I love about our team is that we never give up.

‘Win or lose we always play hard right to the bitter – or sweet – end because we love playing netball.

‘Players will make sacrifices to be there on Wednesday nights and we have never had to play short, due to the dedication of the team.

‘Most of us have been playing together for over five years now – with new additions Sophie Coles and Kelly Jones stepping onto the court for us last season, when Jodie Reid left to have a baby.

‘But she’s back now, less than two months after giving birth, so it shows how keen she is to play again.’

Swanmore currently have approximately 20 members in the club.

They are able to bring in four more players.

Swanmore also do not currently have a sponsor.

So if anyone is interested in joining them, or would like to help out by sponsoring the team, contact Lynn Evans on 07814 709890.

Swanmore’s next match is on Wednesday at 7pm against Loc Out.
