It has been a case of so near, yet so far for Gosport Borough TML in recent seasons.

They have enjoyed a string of fantastic campaigns in division three of the Gosport & Fareham League.

But when it has come down to going all the way to promotion, they have just fallen short, often ending up third in the table.

This season, though, they are aiming to last the distance. And they have certainly made a fast start, winning all four of their opening matches to sit top of the division.

‘We think every season gets harder with so many young teams coming through,’ said TML’s Debbie Woods.

‘But we still seem to be holding our own in division three, probably because we have played together for so long and, of course, the experience of those many years of playing netball.’

GB TML had one of their toughest tests recently, taking on in-form and newly-promoted NSL.

But they proved they mean business with a 45-35 victory.

Woods added: ‘As NSL had lost only one game since they formed as a team, I knew I needed my best team.

‘I had to call Kelly North from GB Lightening and Shannen Woods from GB Mavericks to play as I was short of players at the last minute.

‘Both girls shone, with Kelly getting player of the match and Shannen teamed up well with her sister Cara in the shooting circle.

‘They played brilliantly together in the circle and I think the speed of the youngsters spurred on the rest of the team.

‘It was close throughout and even in the last quarter they (NSL) were only two goals behind and we went on to win it by 10.

‘The shooting from TML sisters Cara and Shannen Woods was spot on and the long hard balls into the circle from the centre court players worked well for us.

‘Andrea Davis’ shooting was brilliant as usual for NSL but our defence never gave up and really fought hard to win the game.’

Gosport Borough TML’s next game is on Wednesday, April 27, against The Amazons.

The team also have a new sponsor, Trevor Lazenbury from TML accountants.

Woods added: ‘We have had a new sponsor for the past two seasons now which has enabled us to have a completely new kit.

‘The new kit is brilliant so we just want to say a big thank you to Trevor for his sponsorship.’
