The first Lee-on-the-Solent parkrun earlier this month attracted an impressive 430 people.

The free, weekly 5k-timed runs are open to everyone and are safe and easy to take part in, with the event entirely organised and managed by volunteers.

It is estimated that an average of 200 people will take part in the Lee-on-the-Solent event each week.

Event director Gary Heather said: ‘This event is for the community and open to all – you can join in whatever your pace.

‘The build-up to the start of our first event was simply electric and all participants had huge smiles on their faces when taking part.’

The runs take place at 9am every Saturday at Marine Parade East and are easily accessed from the nearby Beach Road car park.

To find out more and to register, visit parkrun.org.uk/leeonthesolent/ and then bring your barcode with you each week.

Supporters are always welcome along the course.
