Nudity without warning is simply bare-faced cheek
It was a gorgeous afternoon last Sunday, so a nice dog walk along the beach at Hill Head was in order.
Families were out in force, kids were swimming in the sea and people were taking their horses into the water to cool down. It was the kind of day that a British summer is all about.
So when I was greeted by a pair of naked buttocks the atmosphere changed a bit! Yes, I saw a naked couple sunbathing. Farther along there was another gentleman who stood up and gave a real 'naturist' stretch.
Please, put it away!
In fact there were several people along that part of the shoreline who were 'as nature intended'. It was like a centre spread in Health & Efficiency magazine (I'd imagine).
Further investigation on my radio show revealed more areas where it's acceptable to let it all hang out without the long arm of the law intervening: Browndown, Fort Gilkicker near Haslar and, of course, Eastney.
Now I may upset a few who like the breeze to flow into every nook and cranny, but I think it's wrong to be on a public beach naked, especially near children. It may be a bit amusing for an adult to walk past, but it can be quite upsetting for kids.
In society, walking down Commercial Road naked is not acceptable, so why on a beach?
At Eastney, signs warn you about naked sunbathers, giving you a choice to walk through or not, but I didn't spot a single sign where I was.
And why is it that it's the older generation that enjoy getting their bottoms tanned, too? You generally don't see people in their 20s or 30s going bare. Maybe we are less confident about our bodies. Or maybe you stop worrying about those kinds of things after a certain age.
My friends were very much in favour of naked sunbathing, but only if it was more like Spanish beaches where many younger females walk round in the buff.
Would this make them more likely to join in, I wondered? No, but they said they were more likely to go down and enjoy the views. Give me strength!
Why besmirch what was a beautiful day?
It's a shame that a few can still ruin the beautiful game in such a way.
I went to Pompey's friendly match at Fratton Park against Glasgow Rangers on Saturday, and very much enjoyed myself.
Pompey looked better than I was expecting, and the Rangers fans were great fun.
There was even more amusement when a Pompey fan was removed for showing them his large stomach. 'Bring back the fat man' was among the good-humoured chants.
So why ruin the game's reputation by fighting?
Mindless, pathetic, idiotic, I could go on.
Why can't football fans behave like rugby and cricket supporters?
Still shipshape: it's the Queens of '66
I was on the Gosport ferry over the weekend, and it was pointed out to me that the boat was the oldest active ferry in the UK. I love facts like that.
The 'Queens' that still run on a daily basis actually entered service in 1966, the year England won the World Cup!
That's amazing, because these ships are immaculate.
Top marks must really go to the engineers and crew for keeping them in such top condition.
They have outlasted the QE2, Concorde and the Tricorn Centre.
I wonder if Wightlink's new pristine catamarans will last as long?
