Portsmouth’s Mark Barnett took the individual honours in the first round of the Solent League.

Hosted by Fareham-based Individuals Sea Angling Club (ISAC) at Weston Shore, Woolston, Barnett landed three flounder for a total weight of 3lb 5oz 8dms from peg 118 in zone D.

It was the angler’s maiden ISAC match victory and gave him the top cash award of £140.

Runner-up in the competition was zone B winner Rob Clarke, from Bournemouth, who, from peg 46, reeled in two flounders for a total zone-winning weight of 2lb 3oz 8dms,

Third place went to Darren Stevens, with a zone C-winning weight of 1lb 11oz 12dms, represented by two flounders.

A flounder of 1lb 5oz 4dms, landed by Portsmouth’s Mark Vinter, from peg 55 in zone B, was the heaviest fish of the match.

A total of 90 anglers took part in the event, with 61 fish recorded at the scales for a total weight of 44lb. That was made up one bass, 52 flounder and eight top-ups (under-sized fish granted 1 ounce and returned alive to the water).

All the flounders were returned to the water alive after the weigh-in.

A total of £1,175 was paid out in 22 cash awards on the day. The next match will be fished at Browndown beach on Saturday, February 18 from 6pm-11pm.
