Delight for Doug at Rake
DOUG McAVERY took the honours at the latest Stamshaw Lake AC coarse fishing match with a net of carp for 64lb 6oz.
Runner-up at the event, held at the MBK Coloured Ponds, Rake, on a wet day, was Bobby Blades with a total weighing 27lb 12oz.
Not far behind him was top lady Sue Lemmwith with 24lb 90z.
The heaviest carp of the day went to Barry Hanton with a fish of 9lb 13oz. Overall,the party of anglers caught 222lb 12oz of fish.
The day ended with a BBQ for competitors.
Their next match will be the Allan Watson Memorial Carp Cup on Saturday, August21, from 8am-4pm.
Unfortunately, this match can only be fished by members of Stamshaw Lake.
- Birthday boy Matt Barnett took the honours in the latest MBK Junior Open, held at the Colour Ponds in Rake, near Petersfield.
Fourteen-year-old Barnett triumphed in the 13-16-year-old section against 15 other youngsters.
He used the long-pole method over a bed of pellet, with sweetcorn and luncheon meat baits, for a mixed bag of fish containing cruisions, tench and carp – the largest weighing 7lb – for a very respectable 41lb 2oz.
The next junior open match is this Friday at MBK Coloured Ponds.
The draw is at 5pm, with fishing held from 5.45pm-8.15pm.
