Chris Eubank Jr last night geared up for his next fight in Portsmouth.

Eubank was a surprise visitor to the city as he dropped in at local trainer Michael Ballingall’s gym for sparring ahead of his contest next Saturday.

The 23-year-old got rounds under his belt with Waterlooville’s Ryan Moore as he aims to make it seven professional wins on the bounce.

Chris Hobbs and Paul Morby also took part in the action as Eubank fine tunes his preparations.

Eubank is aiming to follow in the footsteps of his father, who stormed to world title success in the 1990s and remains one of British boxing’s iconic figures.

Ronnie Davies trains Eubank Jr and was also in the corner for many successful nights for local favourite Tony Oakey’s career.

They both looked on as Eubank Jr went about his work with the local boxers.

Ballingall believes the sparring could be the start of some regular visits from the young hopeful.

He said: ‘It’s good to get Chris to come down and do some sparring with our lads.

‘Ronnie Davies was looking at getting someone to help him get ready for his next fight, and we were more than happy to help.

‘It’s good news for the gym and helps with our profile.

‘Chris has improved a lot since his amateur days and has been sparring with people like James DeGale and George Groves.

‘If things work out, we’ll be happy for Chris to keep coming down in the future.’

Meanwhile, Ballingall has called on local fight fans to get behind their boxers ahead of the next professional show in Southsea on November 10.

A host of boxers will again be in action on a card at South Parade Pier.

Floyd Moore will look for his latest win over six rounds after impressing last time out.

Ryan Moore will aim to maintain his unbeaten record and will be joined by Liam Griffiths, Morby, Joel McIntyre, Danny Couzens and Garry Neale.

Ballingall said: ‘We have the chance to bring on the careers of these boxers by having another fight night.

‘We need to see people come out and get behind them. Without the support of people coming to these shows we would not having professional boxing in the Portsmouth area.’

Tickets are available for the show priced £30 and £50. For details, contact 07407 355796.
