Hampshire boxers out to do county duty

Harvey Blair

Harvey Blair

County pride is at stake today as Hampshire take on Surrey.

Gosport ABC hold the bumper card which will see the two counties collide – with at least 12 bouts expected.

Talented Gosport ace Harvey Blair leads the charge at senior level, with an exciting bout against Woking’s Joe Louis D’Santos in prospect.

The bout will be the decider between the pair, with previous contests leaving them tied at 1-1.

Fareham’s Arthur Eason will also be in action alongside Gosport’s Brad Miller, who will be looking to add to his two wins from four contests.

Ted Harris Boxing Academy also feature heavily, with a host of their up-and-coming talents in action.

A lively atmosphere is expected at Gosport’s gym for the occasion.

Hampshire coach Darren Blair is expecting an exciting evening of boxing.

Blair said: ‘It’s going to be a good show.

‘There are a lot of boxers looking forward to wearing the Hampshire vest.

‘There are a lot of people involved from Portsmouth clubs and the surrounding area boxing.

‘Stacey have some boxers involved and there are a lot coming over from Ted Harris Boxing Academy.

‘There are a lot of junior bouts featuring up-and-coming boxers, but Harvey is the captain of the squad and is boxing D’Santos at senior level.

‘D’Santos is a strong boxer, but Harvey is ready for him.

‘The atmosphere is always good and the crowd always get behind the team.

‘There will no doubt be quite a few coming down to support Surrey as well, so we want everyone to come and get behind us.

‘It’s gone really, really well since we got the Hampshire squad back together again and we’re pleased that we did it.

‘The training sessions are well attended and people are keen.

‘To represent your county is a great thing to do.’

The action gets under way tonight at 5.30pm at Gosport ABC, Cranbourne Road (behind Asda).

Tickets for the show are priced £10 (£5 children).
