JIMMY ADAMS is looking ahead to the good times at Hampshire after agreeing to extend his contract.

The County Championship skipper will stay until the end of the 2014 season, after signing a one-year extension.

And the opener is confident success is around the corner.

Adams said: ‘It’s great to be able to commit myself to the club for another year.

‘I feel we have a great core of players and staff and the future is bright so I’m very excited about the next few years.’

Hampshire head into the 2012 campaign, desperate to return to the top-flight of the County Championship.

And skipper Adams believes he is ready for what lies ahead.

‘There will be new challenges for all of us, starting with trying to get first division cricket back at The Rose Bowl,’ he added.

Hampshire manager Giles White is delighted to have Adams tied down for the long term.

He believes that Adams’ work ethic will stand him in good stead as he leads the club forward.

White is also excited about what the future holds.

He said: ‘As captain and player Jimmy has a big part to play in Hampshire’s future.

‘He continues to push himself and develop his game through good honest hard work and we look forward to seeing what he can achieve in the coming seasons.’

Adams, 31, was awarded his Hampshire cap in 2006 when he recorded his highest first-class score, 262 not out at Trent Bridge.

He played in Hampshire’s trophy winning sides in 2009 and 2010.

Adams was also named players’ player of the year both seasons.

He earned selection for the England Performance Squad in Australia in 2010 and the England Lions’ tour of the Caribbean in early 2011.

At the end of the 2011 season, it was announced that Adams would be Hampshire’s new captain, taking over from Dominic Cork.
