Hampshire seal Twenty20 qualification
HAMPSHIRE duo Sean Ervine and Dimi Mascarenhas sealed a Twenty20 quarter-final showdown at Northants after spurring their side to a terrific six-wicket win at Essex.
Skipper Mascarenhas grabbed two vital early wickets, while Ervine poached three himself in the Eagles innings and the pair then ended the day as the unbeaten pair as the Hawks successfully chased 150 to book their spot in the last eight of the competition for only the second time in seven years.
Thankfully it was two experienced performers that were left to finish things off as the pressure grew in the middle section of the Hampshire reply, despite chasing a relatively small target.
But they held their nerve when it mattered as Ervine played a typically swashbuckling knock for his unbeaten 39 from 22 balls, while the skipper was at the other end with 27 as Ervine smashed a final six to complete the victory with the first delivery of the 20th over.
