NEWCOME C were too good for Shearer B as they recorded a 7-2 win in division A of the Portsmouth Ladies’ Winter League.

Impressive Newcome took a 3-0 lead through Elaine Harty, Jean Penn and Jen Fenton.

Shearer responded with wins from Nikki Cunningham and Anne Read.

However, that was all Shearer could muster.

And Newcome took the remaining ties through Carole Bampton, Fran Hunter/Kate Clements, Harty/Penn and Fenton/Sophia Hook.

Brewers Arms came from behind to beat Phoenix 5-4 in division B.

Phoenix led 3-1 through Debbie Kennett, Rose Holland and Fran Warner, with only Liz McGuinness responding.

But Brewers then seized the momentum with victories from Julie Large and Marion Flloyd.

Two pairs wins then sealed victory, before Phoenix took the last clash as a consolation.

George edged out Graham Arms 5-4 in a closely-contested match in division C.

Liz Mappleston drew first blood for George.

But Jackie Jenkins levelled things up for Graham.

George took a 3-1 lead courtesy of Mandy Mayes and Mavis Patterson before Graham levelled, with Jan Grigg and Rachel Jenkins on the mark.

However, George bagged the points with the first two pairs matches.

Diane Thompson/Mappleston and Nick Perchard/Mayes were in winning form, leaving Grigg/Rachel Jenkins to round things off for Graham.
