Ablett: I'll fight for Tour dream
James Ablett has refused to back down in his fight to make it on to the European Tour.
The Lee-on-the-Solent professional made his Tour debut at Wentworth last week in the BMW PGA Championship.
Two three-over rounds saw him miss the cut by four shots.
However, 31-year-old Ablett has another chance to make his mark in the European Open at the London Golf Club, Kent.
And he believes his experience at the flagship Tour event will stand him in good stead.
He said: 'The greens will be a similar speed unlike what we play every week unfortunately.
'We play different speeds, different textures (in Southern Region events) than what we have to put up with.
'But until you come out here and play with these guys week in and week out that's what you've got to put up with. But I'll keep fighting, keep plugging away.
'I've never walked away from a fight yet – luckily I've never been offered out too many times!
'Certainly, going to tour school, I'm going to feel a lot more comfortable.
'I know I missed the cut (at Wentworth) by four, but it was marginal.
'With four to play I had it in my own hands, although I didn't know it.
'Now I'll probably do things slightly differently, hit a few more different tee shots here and there. But I stuck to the game plan.
'Ben Hogan always said don't hit a golf shot on the course you haven't hit in practice.'
Ablett feels his game is in good shape to go one step further at the European Open, which will be defended by Ross Fisher, who came runner-up to Paul Casey at Wentworth.
He said: 'What was going on around me didn't bother me at Wentworth.
'I was more relaxed on the second day.
'It's something I can really work with tomorrow.
'The putting could get a little warmer and I couldn't take some opportunities.
'I left an awful lot out there – it's a case of being tidier around the greens.
'I hadn't hit a driver down 16, so it's a gamble.
'You've got to try to push for birdies but I had two par fives to come and made the green comfortably.
'But hey, you live and you learn.
'I was pleased with how I'm hitting the golf ball, I had great rhythm, hit it smooth, didn't try to rush it.
'I hit one bad iron shot down seven and eight and one down 15 – apart from that it was really good.
'On Friday, I hit two fairway bunkers and that cost me three shots a couple of tee shots here and there.'
