Rhythm and Blues

There is no sign of the Blues looking off-colour as division five of the Fareham & Gosport League heats up.

Carla Shephard's outfit are enjoying a consistent run in the current campaign, after enduring a rocky ride in recent seasons.

The ladies have netted four wins and a draw, shrugging off some early-season 'blues' in style.

The Blues formed in 2008, determined to keep fit and have fun.

However, a mixture of problems saw them suffer relegation as they attempted to come to terms with life in the competitive league.

'As a team we have been playing together for about five seasons and have been in and around division five most of the time,' said team captain Shephard.

'However, we have had a lot of new players this season, with people travelling and getting pregnant.

'We didn't start very well this season but we are looking to stay up and build on this next season. We haven't had a regular team every week but hopefully next season will be much better and we will have some consistency back.

'We did play extremely well against Mavericks and fought hard to win 25-22, and had a spectacular 65-6 win over JoKers Red.'

The team have never had sponsorship but are open to offers. If you are interested, call Carla on 07727 247143.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth-based Maritime are looking for new players for the winter season in division one.

Starting in September, they are looking for a shooter and any court players.
