Marodima completes quick-fire double

Marodima powered to a second success in 48 hours at Warwick on Saturday.

The nine-year-old gelding made all to win the Betfred The Bonus King Handicap Chase, justifying his position as the 9/4 favourite.

His triumph – under jockey Tom O’Brien – came hot on the heels of an emphatic win at Fontwell on Thursday.

At the West Sussex venue, the son of Robin Des Pres raced clear to record a whopping 53-length success in the Horton’s Steam Fair Handicap Chase.

Formerly rated 148 over fences – under the stewardship of champion trainer Paul Nicholls – Marodima has slipped to a mark of just 112.

He has been hard work to train in recent years, often taking to the gallops alone.

But Jamie Snowden – his latest mentor – is clearly getting to grips with the French-bred talent.

And the partnership could be tasting further glory this week, with a hat-trick bid pencilled in for Taunton on Thursday.

Elsewhere, Fix The Rib made an encouraging start to the new year with third place in the William Hill – Home of Betting Handicap Chase at Kempton.

A 16/1-shot for the prize – ultimately won by Cruchain – the Gary Moore-trained gelding had every chance two out before weakening and making a mistake at the last.

Fix The Rib’s stable-mate Reblis also featured on the card at Kempton – bidding for a third consecutive win over fences in the williamhill.com Novices’ Handicap Chase.

But despite plenty of market support, which saw the seven-year-old go to post at 6/1, he was beaten into fourth.

Moore’s West Sussex neighbour Nick Gifford trained the third-placed horse El Padrino.

But neither could stop impressive winner Moleskin.

Racing returns to Sussex today, with a seven-race card at Plumpton.

Gifford’s Specialagent Alfie is well fancied for the SIS Live Novices’ Hurdle, in which Moore is set to run Winning Spark.

And Moore is gunning for the scalp of recent Taunton scorer Double Handful in the last – the SIS Live Handicap Hurdle (4.10pm) – as he saddles Jodawes and Finch Flyer.
