Barry Geraghty’s rotten luck on Problema Tic continued yesterday.

The pair were backed in to 1/4 favourite to land the Equimark Horseboxes Premier Novices’ Chase at Hungtindon.

But despite also being the pick of the paddock, they fell to a shock defeat at the hands of 16/1-outsider Pentiffic.

Geraghty has struck up a formidable partnership with leading jumps trainer Nicky Henderson.

However, the 32-year-old Irish jockey has failed to taste success on promising novice chaser Problema Tic – partnering the gelding to the only three defeats in his eight-race career.

The six-year-old was unbeaten last term until the County Meath-born rider jumped into the saddle.

After a pair of bumper wins and a double over hurdles, the French-bred son of Kapgarde was disappointing when beaten by Sonofvic and three others at Ascot in February.

The partnership were then eighth in the Silver Cross Handicap Hurdle – a Listed contest at Aintree’s Grand National meeting won by Russian War.

Problema Tic returned to the track on Fontwell’s Boxing Day card.

And in front of a packed West Sussex crowd, he breezed to a debut victory over fences in the hands of Andrew Tinkler.

But yesterday, with Henderson’s stable jockey Geraghty back in the plate, he failed to follow up that Fontwell triumph.

In the colours of famous owner Sir Robert Ogden, Problema Tic was not fluent over his fences.

He was under pressure three from home when only in third spot.

And although he got upsides the Venetia Williams-trained winner on the run-in, he went down by a head.
