Corben ‘over the moon’ as plan comes together

Mark Corben hailed the team spirit of Fareham Nomads after another fine display in the pool.
The south-coast outfit brought home a clutch of medals – including five golds – from the City of Southampton meet earlier this month.
And head coach Corben reckons he is beginning to make his mark on the team he took over last year.
‘I was over the moon with the day’s swimming,’ he said.
‘As I have said before, the team has a lot of talent and we’ve shown it again.
‘Among the great haul of medals won, there was also an extremely high percentage of personal-best swims and many top-eight finishes just outside of the medals.
‘The most satisfying part of the weekend, though, was how much we looked like a team.
‘We were in very high spirits with great support for each other. That’s a huge part of the new regime – something I wanted to bring to the club when I took over.’
Nomads took a large team along the M27 and produced an impressive display.
Along with the five gold medals, they pocketed 15 silvers and seven bronze – placing them second in the overall standings.
Sebastian Williams – in the category for boys aged 11-12 – took gold in the 100m and 200m freestyle, silver in the 100m breaststroke and 50m backstroke and bronze in the 200m IM.
In the 13-14 age group, Daniel Cameron won gold in the 50m backstroke and 100m butterfly.
The 14-year-old also pocketed three silvers and a bronze before placing third in the ‘skins’ event.
In the same age group, James Kingshott claimed silver in the 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 100m butterfly.
While Jessica Davies won silver, girls’ 50m freestyle, and silver in the 50m backstroke.
Jacqueline Knight won silver in the 100m and 200m freestyle and the 100m butterfly and bronze in the 100m breaststroke in the category for girls aged 11-12.
Joshua Lees – in the same age range for boys – won gold in the 50m butterfly and silver in both the 50m breaststroke and 100m backstroke.
In the events for boys aged nine-10, Ollie Burton claimed silver in the 100m backstroke and bronze in the 100m breaststroke.
Joe Riley won bronze in the men’s 50m and 100m backstroke.
