Pompey thrashed at Old Trafford
Pompey's season hit a new low today as they were thumped 5-0 at Manchester United.
A second-half collapse saw United cruise to victory and take over at the top of the Premier League.
Two own-goals and efforts from Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov did the damage.
Pompey showed some early promise and could have had the lead when Nadir Belhadj's drive was cleared off the line by Jonny Evans.
But once Wayne Rooney headed the home side in front they were in cruise control.
Anthony Vanden Borre diverted the ball past a leaden footed James for the second before half-time.
Then Carrick increased United's advantage with a deflected strike off Richard Hughes after the restart.
Berbatov led Tal Ben Haim on a merry dance before firing home the fourth from 20 yards.
And Pompey's misery was complete when Wilson smashed the ball past James with 21 minutes remaining.
The result means Avram Grant's side are now seven points from safety ahead of a monumental clash against Sunderland on Tuesday night.
