Lenny Sowah is being chased for a Ghana call-up.
The Pompey teenager is being eyed by the Black Stars after making his first-team breakthrough for Avram Grant's side.
Sowah made his full debut against Aston Villa on Sunday after a couple of appearances off the bench for the Blues.
The 17-year-old would qualify for the African nation through his dual German-Ghanaian heritage.
Ghana want Sowah to turn out for the country's under-20 side – who are the reigning world champions at that age level.
The left-back has made a steady start to his senior Pompey career, with the Villa game his best performance to date.
Sowah stood up to the challenge of taking on England pair Ashley Young and Stewart Downing and emerged with credit.
Ghana spokesman Jordan Anagbla said he would be keen to get Sowah involved with his country.
He said: 'Our doors are open to all those within the age category and are playing regularly at the highest level.
'What is important is that these youngsters are willing to play for Ghana and that will earn them a place.
'We are the defending world youth champions and we need a large pool of players to pick the best for the country. If Sowah is ready, then our doors are open to him.'
