Josh Thompson admits he is in the dark over his Pompey future.
But the 21-year-old has no regrets over his Fratton Park switch.
The defender ripped up the remaining 10 months of his Celtic contract to join the Blues in September.
It was a remarkable show of faith from Thompson, who had impressed while on trial during pre-season.
But after just three appearances he was sent out on loan to Colchester last month.
That deal will expire on December 31 – the same day his monthly Pompey contract is up for renewal.
With the club still in administration and able to only offer players month-to-month deals, there is expected to be a big January turnaround.
And Thompson is unsure whether he will be required to remain at the club.
He said: ‘As far as I know, I am on loan at Colchester until December 31.
‘It’s then up to the manager (Guy Whittingham) to decide. He chooses the players. We will see what happens then.
‘I have no regrets coming to Portsmouth – we are not owed any favours, we all knew the risks. That is how it is.
‘Michael Appleton was honest from the start and that was the big part of signing.
‘Nobody was trying to pull the wool over your eyes, they were being honest and up front about the situation.
‘Probably, some players approached didn’t want to do that so didn’t sign and went elsewhere. That was up to them.
‘Everyone who did sign, though, knew the situation.
‘There was always that risk over the stability of the club and you have to accept it.
‘It’s always at the back of your mind but you get on with it.
‘As it stands I am at Colchester but, to be honest, I am not really looking to plan past the loan at the minute.’
Thompson joined Celtic from Stockport in August 2009.
He went on to make 21 appearances for the Scottish giants, scoring three times.
While there he spent time on loan at Rochdale and Chesterfield in recent campaigns.
Thompson was allowed to play a part in Pompey’s pre-season this summer and he made three appearances.
It persuaded Appleton to maintain interest and Thompson agreed to leave Celtic by mutual consent.
Currently on loan at Colchester, the towering defender has made three appearances – including starting Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth.
But he believes quitting Celtic for Pompey was the right thing to do.
He added: ‘I still had a year left at Celtic but managed to cancel that.
‘I just wanted to come back to England and get set up.
‘There was not anything there for me any more.
‘I enjoyed my time there but I’m ambitious and want to do well in my career.
‘It was time to leave and Portsmouth were interested.’
