Guy Whittingham has spoken of his delight at a return to football at Crawley.
Whittingham was yesterday named as first-team coach with the Reds, following his sacking at Pompey last month.
The Blues hero was replaced by Richie Barker, who was sacked by the League One outfit two days after Whittingham left Fratton Park.
Whittingham links up with another former Pompey boss in John Gregory at Broadfield Stadium.
He told of his shock at being axed 16 games into the season by the Blues
‘I’m really pleased I’ve got this opportunity to work with John Gregory,’ said Whittingham.
‘It was very disappointing (to be sacked).
‘Sixteen league games into a season you don’t expect it, but this is fantastic that I’ve been able to come back really quickly and with somebody I respect.
‘I knew I was a new manager.
‘I knew there were going to be lots of experiences to pick up.
‘You never really get to know those until you are in a manager’s position because it all stops with you.
‘That has taught me such a lot and I’ve picked up so many experiences that I think I can help the manager at Crawley with.’
