Pompey handed double fitness boost

Gabor Gyepes is set to play against Doncaster on Saturday

Gabor Gyepes is set to play against Doncaster on Saturday

Gabor Gyepes and Akos Buzsaky are set to provide Pompey with a fitness boost for the visit of Doncaster.

Buzsaky missed the weekend defeat to Bury with a hamstring problem picked up in training.

Meanwhile, Gyepes was forced off at half-time at Gigg Lane after feeling unwell.

However, Guy Whittingham expects both to be available for selection for Saturday’s home clash with Rovers.

It’s encouraging news for the Blues as they attempt to end a run of five successive defeats.

The caretaker manager said: ‘Gabor went for a walk on the morning of the Bury game and wasn’t feeling well at all, but battled through the first half.

‘We drugged him up to start the game and got through it to half-time, but he was last off the pitch and I thought he was going to faint as he walked off.

‘He was just feeling so dizzy at half-time.

‘It was a little bit unfortunate because I felt he played reasonably well.

‘Akos wasn’t going to be fit for this week and there was no point bringing him to Bury and risking him on the bench because you are not going to bring him on and play him.

‘He got treatment at the weekend and had a rest.

‘He hasn’t pulled it or anything, it was just really tight.

‘Hopefully he will be back in the squad for this weekend.’

However, Scott Allan will, be missing for Pompey once again.

The on-loan midfielder is serving the final game of his three-match ban following his sending off against Notts County.

Whittingham is also hoping to recruit at least one player on loan in time for Saturday.

He is seeking a centre forward and a central defender to fill the two spots currently available in his 20-man squad.
