Adams to decide on Sol future

Sol Campbell is sweating on his Pompey future.

The FA Cup-winning skipper is among 15 players out of contract this summer, none of who have been offered fresh deals.

Tony Adams is currently carefully assessing his squad before deciding who he wants to keep at Fratton Park.

The likes of Sean Davis, Noe Pamarot, Richard Hughes, Kanu, Lauren and Linvoy Primus are all among the 15.

But it's Campbell who is the highest-profile name to feature.

Despite his magnificent service, he will be 35 next September and is currently one of the highest earners at the club.

The former England captain has already been linked with Villarreal, while from January he is entitled to speak to interested parties.

In the meantime, Adams will spend the next few months deliberating over who stays.

And, for the moment, central-defender Campbell and Pompey's other out-of-contract stars will have to wait before their future is decided.

Blues executive chairman Peter Storrie said: 'Sol is out of contract and it's up to Tony to look at it, as he will with Noe, Sean Davis and the others.

'Tony's got some ideas but he wants to have a good look at these things over the next couple of weeks.

'We've got a lot of games coming up now and it's quite a good time to judge.

'There are three home games, then we are away at West Brom – after that we'll sit down and Tony will have his own mind made up of what he wants to do with the players.

'To be honest, I don't think he will give any great thought to the contracts situation until after the January transfer window.

'It gives Tony a good opportunity to see which one of those he wants to retain and which ones he wants to let go.

'And that's something we will do between January and May.'

Campbell is currently nursing a sore toe – a problem which forced him out of last weekend's 0-0 draw at West Ham.

He has yet to return to training, casting doubt whether he will be able to face Hull on Saturday.

In the meantime, Storrie has dismissed recent reports Campbell has already lined up a switch to Spanish side Villarreal.

He added: 'If you go back and look at the past three transfer windows, about one month before the window opens Sol Campbell is supposedly going to Villarreal.

'I have spoken to Sol and he's said "I don't know what you are talking about, I've never heard anything about it".

'We know nothing about it, he knows nothing about it, his lawyer he deals with doesn't know anything about it.

'It makes you wonder if some of these people saying these things have it in their diary every time there's a transfer window.'
