Administrator confirms 85 job losses at Pompey
Eighty-five Pompey staff have lost their jobs today in a wave of redundancies at the crisis-hit club, administrators have confirmed.
Andrew Andronikou told a packed press conference at Fratton Park that 23 full-time staff have left the club.
But the bulk of employees made redundant - 62 - were part-time staff.
A further 12 full-time workers have agreed to cut their hours to save their jobs.
Mr Andronikou said the redundancies are 'unfortunate' but necessary.
He said: 'Can I take this opportunity to thank people for their contributions to the club and wish them well for the future.'
Mr Andronikou's statement came as ex-staff reacted with a mixture of frustration and anger that the axe did not fall on high earners at the club.
But the administrator said difficult decisions had to made.
He added: 'Today has been extremely difficult. There's always a day in administration when you have to look at yourself and wonder whether you like the job you do.'
Mr Andronikou said that 'for the time being' there would be no further redundancies but the situatuation would be reviewed at the end of March.
Meanwhile Mr Andronikou said 'more than a dozen' parties have expressed an interest in buying Pompey.
Of those, two have provided proof of funds. However the administrators have asked for more information.
