Administrator - Storrie must bear 'large part' of blame for crisis
Pompey's administrator has said former chief executive Peter Storrie shoulders a 'large part' of the blame for the club's financial woes.
Storrie left Pompey's board last week but is still acting as an advisor for the club while administrator Andrew Andronikou seeks a credible buyer.
And Mr Andronikou has come out to say he thinks Storrie, who was reportedly taking home more than 1m a year in wages and bonuses under Sacha Gaydamak, is among those responsible for the crisis at Fratton Park.
'Portsmouth is an example of how not to conduct business in the world of football,' said Andronikou.
'If you overspend and don't budget accordingly you cannot rely on money from the owner or the proprietor coming in to bridge the gap, and in that it's no difference to any other business.
'At the moment Mr Storrie is assisting us on an ad hoc basis. I felt in the very short term it would help us if we had him around to assist us in certain aspects of the business but this is very much in the short term.
'He was a senior officer of the company and the company has failed so it goes without saying that, yes, he must bear a large part of the responsibility, absolutely.'
The comments come a day after the Premier League decided to dock Pompey nine points for entering administration - leaving them on just 10 points at the foot of the table.
The league's action was taken following HMRC's decision to drop its challenge against the validity of Pompey going in to administration. HMRC also dropped its winding up order lodged over 11.6m in unpaid taxes.
Andronikou has confirmed he will not appeal against the Premier League's ruling and is in talks with officials about how the club can be helped out with advanced TV money and parachute payments.
The possibility also remains that the league will allow Andronikou to sell two players and lease them back for the remainder of the season.
Meanwhile, 'a source' told ESPN that Storrie was 'shocked' by Andronikou's comments that he was to blame for the mess the club is in - revealing a spat behind the scenes at Fratton Park.
'Andrew has made some highly explosive remarks about Peter Storrie,' the source said.
'Peter Storrie, who has resigned as chief executive, but remains a consultant, has naturally been shocked by this. There has been a succession of owners, who have been in control of the club and its finances, rather than Storrie, so you can imagine he has taken great exception to this.
'Storrie has confronted Andrew, who has pleaded that he has been taken out of context and he has promised to retract his earlier comments. But it doesn't end there, Andrew has been making comments about the potential new owners, and it has not gone down well.'
