Ben Haim is the latest injury worry for Blues

Tal Ben Haim is a doubt with a hamstring injury

Tal Ben Haim is the latest injury worry that has left Pompey’s squad stretched to the limit.

The Israel defender tweaked a hamstring in the 1-0 defeat to Birmingham in midweek and has been unable to train since.

Blues boss Michael Appleton will run the rule over the former Chelsea man today before making a decision on whether to take him to Blackpool for tomorrow’s tea-time showdown.

But with none of the other walking wounded expected to return just yet, it leaves Appleton asking players to get through games, despite carrying injuries.

Appleton said: ‘We’re pretty much where we were apart from Tal.

‘He’s got a tight hamstring and he hasn’t been able to train so we will see if he is fit to travel.

‘Adam Webster had an infected toe and he’s had an injection in it.

‘But we are down to the bare bones.

‘People are playing with injuries at the moment but they have to put a shift in.’

David Norris has now served his three-match ban but has not yet recovered from the hernia operation he recently underwent.

Meanwhile, Benjani and Dave Kitson are both carrying hamstring strains and Luke Varney’s return is still some time away as he battles a knee ligament problem.

Appleton said: ‘This game is far too soon for David.

‘He is an important part of the squad.

‘If you’ve seen the games over the past couple of weeks or so, I think he has proven that point. I mention all the time how important it is to have Luke Varney back on the training ground but David is just as infectious a character as he is a good player.

‘He is a great person to work with.

‘The other night, we had Dave Kitson and Benjani both feeling tight hamstrings and not being fully fit.

‘Luke has not trained. We will reassess the injury next week.

‘The Birmingham game was crying out for him.’

Hopefully it is something permanent and we can cash in the insurance policy.

If we all brought our camping gear, it would create a tents atmosphere. (sorry)

Post 28 - That would mean everyone else would have to do the same, Matty. Might make this board a tad confusing......so no change there!
