Black Cats tamed as Pompey party

Pompey's Premier League survival party went off with a bang as Sunderland were sent packing tonight.

Paul Hart's men came from behind to pick up a 3-1 win in a frenetic second-half at Fratton Park.

Kenwyne Jones put the visitors in front 14 minutes after the restart after both sides cancelled each other out in the first half.

But John Utaka controversially equalised a couple of minutes later as ref Alan Wiley appeared to blow up just before he fired home - only to then let the goal stand.

Utaka, making his first start since November, then played a key part in the second goal after 68 minutes, dancing around Marin Fulop before Phil Bardsley diverted the ball home after a mistake from Anton Ferdinand.

Then Armand Traore wrapped things up for the Blues with the third two minutes before time.

It was a night full of positives for Pompey as Paul Hart went for the jugular and was given his reward for his forward-thinking approach.

And young keeper Asmir Begovic showed his promise with an excellent display, as he made his Premier League debut with David James out with a neck injury.

The icing on the cake came in stoppage time as Linvoy Primus was given his first appearance in two years.
